Media and Presentation Courses

people communicating

Whatever you do, and however well you do it, these courses offer the skills to do it better still!

Communication Skills in a Media Context. One day workshop.

For people who need to be able to cope confidently with media interviews or presentations.

We take a "whole person" approach to developing your media skills. In addition, we teach a range of practical and effective techniques for getting your message across. The result is that alongside learning the skills to communicate clearly and effectively in a media context, you will develop in self assurance and composure. All our media workshops are tailored to the specific requirements of each participant.

Our intensive workshop covers the following areas:
Marshalling content.
Making your responses clear and interesting
Keeping to durations.
Knowing yourself and your unique style.
Developing resilience. Left field questions, interruptions, distractions etc.
Keeping on track. Avoiding being led by interviewer.
Working with interviewers. Techniques they use.
The camera and you. Handling nerves and stress.
Words and language. Addressing your audience through the interviewer.
Appropriate language. Talking clearly to your audience.

With half the day spent learning and rehearsing, the second half of this workshop enables participants to put their new expertise into practice in realistic media scenarios: delivering a presentation or statement to a well briefed role playing actor or being interviewed in a style or context that you would find challenging.

All this takes place in the security of a supportive and confidential training context.

Our broadcast quality cameras and playback equipment with professional lighting and sound make this workshop as near to the real thing as you can get without actually being on TV.

This one day workshop can be delivered at a location near your workplace or at our centre in mid Wales.

Advanced two-day Media Skills Course.

The advanced course is aimed at people with a media brief or the requirement that they may have to represent their organisation in a situation that is controversial or business critical.

Like the One Day Workshop, we take a whole person approach, developing the unique communication style of each participant.
Also, the Advanced Course has a smaller group size, and takes the content into more challenging territory.
Participants have ample opportunity to rehearse new skills in a realistic on-camera setting, and to put work-based scenarios to the test of journalistic challenge.

To make this course as rigorous as possible, we spend a substantial amount of time gathering briefing information as to the background and working situation of participants so that we can tailor the course content to address their requirements.
