About Us

The Creative Work Place is a privately owned independent company. Its directors are Andy Brice and Karen Whiteside, both of whom have extensive experience of working in key areas of education and the media.

Andy Brice, Director, the creative work place

Andy began his television career at the centre of a media storm, recording the Bishop of Durham deny the virgin birth of Christ. He went on to cram a huge range of prestigious and adventurous experiences into a thirty year career. He's worked with Pierce Brosnan and Roland Rat, filmed in freefall, and produced the Welsh language pop series that gave the Stereophonics, the Super Furry Animals and Cerys Matthews their big break.

For twenty years he managed his own highly successful television production company producing series for the Discovery Channel, BBC and ITV. His other interests include metallurgy, hot air ballooning and lighting design. His most recent lighting commission was for St Teilo's Church in the National Museum of Wales, St Fagans.

Karen Whiteside, Director, the creative work place

Karen is currently studying psychotherapy at Spectrum, a centre for humanistic psychology, having begun her working life as a teacher of English and Drama. After moving into television, she went on to direct a string of high profile documentaries for the BBC, bringing her skills as a story teller to subjects as varied as Doris Day, barbershop singing and the poetry of space. She also directed Bach's 48 Preludes and Fugues, a series of short performance films released on DVD to critical acclaim.

In collaboration with Andy Brice she directed her first ever documentary, about the banjo player Derroll Adams and an award winning television film of The Lighthouse, an opera based on the true story of three missing lighthouse keepers. Together, Andy and Karen created Getting To Know You, a documentary for the BBC and The History Channel about Anna Leonowens, the real woman behind the musical The King and I.

The Creative Work Place is their latest collaboration.
